There are an increasing number of reports on how players from the United States are being banned from signing up at Microgaming-powered online casinos and poker rooms. Although the Isle of Man-based gambling software provider has not yet commented on the matter, it is obvious that the move to curb these sign-ups is far more widespread than it was earlier assumed.

Who is Responsible for the Move?
In the meanwhile speculation is rife on where the decision stemmed from. Some are of the opinion that licensees are responsible for the move. There is a belief that individuals running online casinos and poker rooms are growing increasingly concerned about the legal mayhem, virtual cash issues and other unforeseen hazards that plague these online ventures making it increasingly difficult to conduct a professional business in the United States. Another group is of the opinion that Micrograming with the backing of the licensees is responsible for the move.

The Bottom Line
From Monday November 10, Microgaming powered ventures will decline all registrations from the United States. The situation is far from ideal with all the stakeholders (internet players, operators and affiliates) standing to lose out because of this move.

Ban Makes U.S. Politicians Happy
The ban is a minor victory for U.S. politicians and bureaucrats who do not hesitate to authorize other gambling systems but come down hard on online gambling ventures.

However, it remains to be seen whether the ban on new sign-ups is permanent. The outcome of the appeals against the judge’s rulings in the domain seizure cases in Kentucky may play a role in the matter.
